Today was an extremely.....busy day.
I received a call this morning from the nurse practitioner taking care of Chris saying that Chris had a confusion this morning, but more severe than he had experienced in the past. He was unable to remember where he was, what year it was, etc. They took him to get a STAT CT, which ended up coming back normal.
By the time I was able to get to the hospital, Chris was back to normal. After speaking more in depth with the morning nurse, I learned had Chris had actually had a seizure in the morning, and the overnight nurse had heard a noise from outside and came in to find him incoherent and shaking. In addition to the CT, they also performed a brain MRI and began monitoring his brain activity via EEG to see if they could determine the area of the brain that caused the seizure.
Because Chris needed all of the neurological testing this morning, he missed his first of two radiation oncology appointments. He was still able to get radiation on the thoracic lesion on his spine, but the planning and first radiation of his lumbar spine will be pushed until tomorrow. The thoracic radiation seems to be helping the pain in his back. While it is not gone, it is improving.
The brain MRI showed that the lesion in Chris's dura has grown and that there are several more small lesions in the layers surrounding Chris's brain. Dr. Shah believes that irritation from these lesions could be the cause behind the seizure, but they are still ruling out infection as another potential cause. In the meantime, Dr. Shah will be trying to put Chris on another oral chemo partnered with Bendumustine to try to keep the lymphoma in check. They are also discussing the possibility of radiation for the lesions surrounding the brain. Lastly, they are taking Chris's case to the neuro-surgical board for discussion.
Chris slept most of the day, which is extremely common after someone has experienced a seizure, although he has been following most of the Brewer's playoff game, which is refreshing. Go Crew!
Tomorrow, Chris will have another lumbar puncture to check for CNS involvement and deliver prophylactic intrathecal chemo.
I will continue to update as we get more information.
Thank you all for the constant love and prayers. Love you all.
